Nominations for the St David Awards have been announced and Awesome Wales in Cowbridge has been shortlisted in the Business category.

The company, which has a second location in Barry, has been recognised for its contribution to providing an eco-friendly service to its customers by sourcing ethically produced goods with no unnecessary plastic packaging.

Awesome Wales is run by Amy Greenfield and Stuart Burnell alongside a community board of directors. As a Community Interest Company (CIC), the majority of Awesome Wales' profits are invested in local community groups and activities.

First Minister Mark Drakeford, who announced the finalists, said: "Some of the people shortlisted have shown extraordinary acts of bravery and determination. Others have shown incredible community spirit despite the pressures of living through the coronavirus pandemic.

He continued: "Our finalists are astonishing people, and we are very fortunate they call Wales home. I would like to congratulate all those who have been shortlisted and I want to thank everyone who took the time to nominate someone for an award – unfortunately not everyone can make the shortlist."

Customers can also subscribe to a weekly fruit and veg box and community workshops are held during school holidays where children can learn to make zero waste items such as lip balms and bath salts.

Other nominees in the category are Jordan Lea, who set up a CIC called Deal Me Out in 2020 following debilitating mental health issues surrounding his gambling addiction, and A&R Services, a business that adapted during the pandemic by investing in new technology, allowing them to become the first in Wales to offer a bio-misting services which provides additional biosecurity against COVID-19.

The winners will be announced in a ceremony on April 7.
