Yellow Weather Warnings to Hit Cowbridge This Weekend

Storm Ciara will bring very strong winds and potentially some disruption to travel throughout Sunday in Cowbridge and across the UK.

The Met Office has declared yellow weather warnings for wind and rain as Storm Ciara passes through Cowbridge this weekend and have also provided safety advice.

Winds of up to 62 MPH are likely to hit the coastal town.

The warning has recently been updated to increase the likelihood of impacts. The warning is also now only for Sunday.

Storm Ciara will bring very strong winds and potentially some disruption to travel throughout Sunday.

What to expect:

  • Injuries and danger to life from flying debris are possible
  • Injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves and beach material being thrown onto sea fronts, coastal roads and properties
  • Some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs, could happen
  • Road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected, with longer journey times and cancellations possible
  • Some roads and bridges may close
  • Power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

Heavy rain is likely to bring some disruption to travel during Sunday with some flooding in places.

What to expect:

  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer, with the possibility of some cancellations to services.
  • Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer and some road closures are possible
  • There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life
  • There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
