Cowbridge History Society has funded the publication of a new book in collaboration with Llantwit Major Local History Society, titled A Journey Down The Thaw Valley.

The book, which is available to purchase from today, is a richly illustrated and detailed guide to the area from the start of the River Thaw at a spring north of Cowbridge, through the valley, covering history, geography, geology and wildlife.

Six authors collaborated on the project, walked the length of the valley, inspired by the late Jeff Alden, the highly respected geography master at Cowbridge School from 1966 to 1997.

The group has conducted research over the past few years.

In the book, the reader follows in the footsteps of the local explorers and explainers tracing the River Thaw from its source to the sea at Aberthaw.

History, settlements and agriculture are all highlighted as well as geology, scenery and varied wildlife, with a sprinkling of anecdotes and personal stories.

The book is 160 pages-long, A5 softback, with colour photos. It costs £10, plus £2.50 postage and packaging.
