A new craft collaborative has opened its doors in the heart of Cowbridge town centre, providing local crafters with the chance to showcase their talents and boost business after lockdown.

The Cowbridge Craft Hub, located in Verity's Court just off Cowbridge's High Street, welcomed its first customers on Tuesday 1 June 2021.

The quaint and beautiful shop is home to a stunning array of handmade products from over 80 clever creatives, all of whom hail from the Vale and surrounding areas.

Makers have been busy crafting for months ahead of the launch of the Hub, which sees the crafters renting shelf space at an affordable cost to display their items.

The gorgeous handmade goods for sale include stained glass art pieces, resin art using real flowers, vegan friendly soaps and wax products, wooden nursery accessories, miniature pottery houses, lampshades made from upcycled fabrics, plus hand sewn felt animals, gonks and more.

Many of the crafters taking part are also giving their time and volunteering as assistants in the Hub, in a show of community spirit and further support to the venture.

The Cowbridge Craft Hub was created by successful local artist Jenny Lambert, whose well-established art gallery is located above the new store.

"I absolutely love buying handmade goods as they're one of a kind, and the love with which they're made is evident," said Jenny.

"There are so many talented crafters here in South Wales, so I had the idea to bring these amazing makers together under one roof.

"Lockdown has been really tough on small businesses. My aim with The Hub was to create a space where local crafters could support each other, reach new customers and grow their business and reputations.

"Cowbridge has such a vibrant and thriving high street, and I know many people living here also believe in shopping local. It's the perfect place to introduce The Craft Hub."

Paula Palmer, a psychologist by day and crafter by night, is just one of the artisan makers who jumped at the opportunity to take part with her ventures The Happy Hug Company and FFELT Portraits.

Paula said: "Jenny's vision for The Cowbridge Craft Hub is far-reaching; it has encouraged and supported crafters to take the next step in professionalizing their craft, it has introduced amazing variety under one roof for Cowbridge shoppers and visitors, and finally it's kept things local and personal by showcasing local creative talent."

"I hope this will inspire more crafters to take their next bold step forward."

Dee Jeffrey, artist and owner of Crypt Creations, is also grateful for the opportunities The Cowbridge Craft Hub has provided.

After being made redundant from her previous job as a result of the Covid outbreak, the Hub has provided Dee with new employment as the store's assistant, as well as the chance to display her creative work.

"The Hub is an amazing opportunity for local crafters to get together and display their beautiful pieces - I think it has been a great confidence boost for many," said Dee.

"I am so grateful to Jenny for setting up this venture, and I wish it all the success in the world."

The Cowbridge Craft Hub is located in Verity's Court just off High Street, through the archway next to Arthur John & Co.

The Hub is open from 10.00 until 16.00, Monday to Friday, and 10.00 - 17.00 on Saturdays.
