The Duke Of Wellington, Cowbridge, has been nominated for Alun Cairns' annual Parliamentary Pub of the Year competition.

Alun Cairns MP has launched his competition, with eleven pubs from across the Vale competing for the 2019 title.

Pub goers are invited to vote for their favourite pub in the Vale of Glamorgan, with voting taking place through Mr. Cairns' website or nomination forms available at each participating pub.

Voting ends on Wednesday 25 September.

The theme for the competition is 'Great at What They Do', so voters will need to highlight that the pub is outstanding in a particular area, whether that's quality food, range of beer, live music or a top attraction for tourists.

The winner of the competition will then go forward as Mr Cairns' nomination for the national competition.

At this stage, pubs from across the UK are judged and the overall winner is presented with an award at the House of Commons in London.

Mr Cairns said, "I'm pleased to have the opportunity to run my Parliamentary Pub of the Year competition again.

''It highlights the significant role that pubs play in our communities and I want to provide a platform to recognise this.

''Last year's competition attracted an incredibly impressive high quality calibre of nominations and it was great to see the comments from pub goers on what makes their local so special to them."

The winner of last year's competition, Tynewydd in Barry, are joined this year by Three Horseshoes in Moulton, The Six Bells in Penmark, Carne Arms in Llysworney, Duke of Wellington in Cowbridge, Hare & Hounds in Aberthin, Master Mariner in Barry, Star Inn in Dinas Powys, The Sycamore Tree in Colwinston, The Blue Anchor Inn in Aberthaw, The Bush Inn in St Hilary, The Fox & Hounds in Llancarfan and The Red Lion in Bonvilston.
