Cowbridge RFC's mini and junior players were awarded trophies for their achievements at an awards presentation on Sunday, July 3.

More than 200 players were in attendance including family members and club volunteers. The last presentation was held in May 2019 and the club has not been able to host the annual event since due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nigel Ireland, 42, chairman of the mini and junior section at Cowbridge RFC, told Cowbridge Nub News: "We run a presentation evening each year to celebrate how much the players have progressed over the last year.

"We try and get the whole mini and junior sections together, so that's age groups from Under 7s up to the Under 16s and every player gets a trophy for their achievements."

For each age group, three extra trophies were awarded to individuals including the most improved player, a player's player which is voted for by teammates, and a coach's player for an individual that has shown leadership on the field, as well as achieved great attendance.

The presentation event also recognised the volunteers that help out at the club who give their time to coaching, referring, organising matches and other key areas such as first aid.

Mr Ireland added: "We're very much a community rugby club and the whole ethos of the club is about giving people the opportunity to play rugby. If a child wants to come and play, they can come and play rugby regardless of ability."
