Cowbridge Rock Choir is back for the summer and seeks more members
The leader of Cowbridge Rock Choir is keen to hear from new members as the group resumes its summer rehearsal sessions.
Members meet at Cowbridge Town Hall on Wednesday mornings from 10:30 – 12:00 to rehearse songs from a range of genres from pop to Motown and prepare for concerts around the local area.
Stephanie Todd, leader of the Cowbridge Rock Choir, started the choir 11 years ago as well as other groups in Pontyclun and Bridgend. She told Cowbridge Nub News: "The first taster session is free to attend. New members would have 90 minutes to see what it's like.
"People [members] will take them under their wing as soon as they arrive."
The Rock Choir prides itself on accessibility and inclusivity, welcoming everyone to take part no matter what their musical experience is.
Three or four songs are taught every term with a minimum of ten rehearsal sessions.
Cowbridge Rock Choir will be performing at the Race for Life event in Bridgend on May 29, and this will be the first performance from the choir since before lockdown. "There's always something in a performance that someone will know," said Stephanie.
"Normally when we perform, we cause a bit of mayhem because the audience tries to get so close to us because the music makes them want to come on board with it, so it's certainly an experience!"
Current members range in age from 18 to 90 years old and the average age is between 40 to 60.
Before the pandemic, there were approximately 70 people in the Rock Choir and now there are an estimated 35 members.
There are more than 200 Rock Choirs across the UK and the organisation started in Farnham, Surrey in 2005.
