The widow of a Cowbridge Rotary Club member has been awarded a fellowship for her support of the club for nearly four decades.

Margaret Vernon, from Cowbridge, was presented with a Paul Harris Fellowship at a presentation hosted by the club's president Malcolm Hallewell at Coed-y-Mwstwr Golf Club on Saturday, May 14.

Margaret has participated in the fellowship with Cowbridge Rotary's twin club from Meissen, Germany for many years.

Meissen Rotary Club were due to visit this past weekend and has been an active supporter of club events over the years.

But an issue with their plane in Berlin meant the club had to cancel at the last minute and has put the trip on hold for now.

Meissen Rotary members have sent their congratulations to Margaret.

Malcolm Hallewell, president of the Cowbridge Rotary Club, said: "It was a privilege and honour to make this award to someone who has worked so hard and not being a member but a true supporter.

"It was such a pity that the Rotarians from Germany, many of whom had become close friends to Margaret, could not make the event."

Rotary first established the Paul Harris Fellowship in 1957 as a way of recognising substantial contributions.
