An aspiring racing driver is embarking on a journey of a lifetime as she enters an international competition aiming to find the next female racing driver.

Kimberly Logsdon, 26, of Cowbridge has entered Formula Woman, a competition that hopes to get more women involved in motorsport.

The televised competition was launched in 2003/4 but came to an end in 2007. Now, after a 14-year hiatus, it's back and will see competitors take part in a series of track days, assessments, theory days, physical challenges and simulator days.

From an estimated 10,000 entrants, they will be whittled down to 16 finalists who will take part in a final 'shoot out'. Six drivers will then be involved in intensive, professional coaching, driving a McLaren Customer Racing, GT4 racing car in the 2022 GT Cup Championships.

The first assessment of the competition takes place at Trac Mon, Anglesey Circuit on September 19.

"I'm really excited to get going," Kimberly said.

"I've loved motorsport all my life. I raced dirt bikes when I was a kid growing up in Botswana and I'm a massive F1 fan so the opportunity to take part in Formula Woman was too good to miss. It's going to be a big learningcurve but I can't wait to get started.

"Motorsport is such a male dominated area, it can be hard for women to break in to it so competitions like this give women an incredible opportunity to show what we can do."

Formula Woman founder Graeme Glew said: "The world is now ready for Formula Woman, judging from the registrations so far women around the world have an appetite for this. The response has been even better

than we anticipated.

"Apart from healthy registration interest, we have been asked if there are opportunities in motorsport for positions other than driving and the answer to that one is yes. Our plan is once you become a Formula

Woman, the world of motorsport will open up to you.

"The main goal is to create an opportunity for women who could only dream of becoming a racing driver to actually enter the competition and have a go!"

It'll be a long road ahead for Kimberly but she certainly has the drive to become Formula Woman champion.
