The Cancer Research (CRUK) Shop on Cowbridge's high street will see volunteers cycling the distance of Cowbridge to Snowdonia and back on an electric bike.

The CRUK Cowbridge store are taking part in fundraising for the annual Stand Up To Cancer event.

They will be cycling their way to donations and are asking the local people of Cowbridge to pop in and support them from Sunday 20th October - Saturday 26th October.

The local fire station is lending the shop an electric bike to use for the duration of the fundraising and volunteers and local residents will cycle parts of the 250 mile journey all week long.

Stand Up To Cancer is a fundraising campaign that brings the UK together to speed up progress in life-saving cancer research.

They have already gathered a large sum of money after St. Athan golf club members donated £1000 to the fund.

However, the store manager Samantha Griffiths, wants to beat their previous fundraising total of £2,144.73.

Ms. Griffiths said: ''I hope you can see how passionate we are about raising money here.

''Even a trickle makes a big difference with these kind of things.

''We are always coming up with new ideas to raise money and we hope the community will see that and want to donate.

''The CRUK shops are at the front of the high street, they are at the face of the community.

''Even though you get all the high profile celebrities and TV coverage for Stand Up To Cancer it is important that we do as much as we can.''

Since opening, the store has already raised £6342.73 for Stand Up To Cancer and hopes to add a significant chunk to that total this year.

Volunteers in the local community are also encouraged to get involved and help reach the 250 mile target.

If you are available to help the team out from the 20th-26th of October you can ring the store on 01446 772084.

On Saturday the 19th there will also be children's face painting taking place in the store to raise money and a raffle is taking place on the 2nd of November with prizes donated by local businesses.
