Fancy a pint? 1 Town Hall Square's takeaway is here to help

Seeing Covid infection rates fall as vaccine doses increasing are encouraging signs a year into the pandemic. As the weather also starts to improve, at Nub News we can't help but look forward to enjoying time with friends and family over a crisp pint.

1 Town Hall Square is looking forward to opening when restrictions ease, and in the meantime is offering takeaway pints for those who just can't wait.

"If there's one thing that the supermarkets and Amazon can't do, it's pour a good pint!" said manager Jack Davies.

"During the first lockdown, it didn't take too long for us to get pretty fed up with cans and bottles at home and it turned out we weren't the only ones.

"As soon as the pub was allowed to reopen, almost all of us, on both sides of the bar, realised just how much we'd missed draught beer, especially cask beer!

"So whilst we can't let people into the pub at the moment, we can help them take a little bit of it home with them," he said.

The pub is offering draught beer, poured fresh into sealed takeaway cartons, similar to milk cartons.

Cask real ale is £5 per litre and craft keg beer is £7 per litre. The beer list is announced on Facebook and Instagram earlier in the week, and then 1 Town Hall Square opens between 5-7pm on Friday.

Users of the Untappd app can also find out what the pub is pouring on the '1townhallsqaure' profile.

"We've kept things simple, it's first come first served where people just turn up during the allotted times and place their order at our temporary doorway bar, we have a one-way system and all of the now customary rules and procedures," Jack explained.

"We accept both cash and card and because of the social distancing sometimes there are occasions when people have to queue patiently of course.

"Obviously opening once a week for two hours isn't ideal, nor viable, so hopefully it won't be for too much longer, but everyone's been absolutely amazing and we get drunk dry most weeks.

"Our locals have been unbelievably supportive and it's been so lovely to see some familiar faces as well as some new ones too!

"Thankfully our sister pub in Bridgend 'The Coach' has its own microbrewery 'The Coach Brewing Co' and they're expanding their operations, so we've been able to get hold of beer every week throughout the lockdown.

"As the days get longer and the weather gets better, we'll be looking at opening for takeaways on Saturdays and Sundays too, then hopefully sometime soon, the next step will be opening up our courtyard for outdoor hospitality, depending on government announcements," he said.
