Cowbridge Coronation Events Group supported by Cowbridge with Llanblethian Town Council are planning a weekend of events to mark and celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.
On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 May the Cowbridge & District Museum will be holding a Kings and Queens Exhibition in the Town Hall.
Starting at 11.30am on Sunday 7 May there will be a Coronation Parade from the Fire Station, along the High Street to the Leisure Centre led by the Aberthin Tractor Boys.
The intention is that they will be towing some decorated floats and will be followed by a procession of colourfully costumed children and adults.
Cowbridge High Street will be decorated for the occasion and the road will be closed for the duration of the Parade.
Immediately following the Parade there will be a Community lunch/party with entertainment on the Bear Field from 12 noon. The intention is that families will bring picnics but there will be some stalls selling food and drink.
There will be a stage with a programme of entertainment by local performers.
There will also be a Maypole and some small fairground rides. The Leisure Centre will be open with some soft play activities.
The stage programme is currently:
- 12.30 Ellen Williams - Welsh Soprano
- 13.00 Cowbridge Choral Society
- 13.15 Elindia Belly Dancing School
- 13.45 Old Spice Barbershop Quartet
- 14.00 The "Best Welsh Elvis" - Darren 'Graceland' Jones
- 14.30 Elinor Parsons 'mykindachoir'
- 15.00 Local Singer Emily Langford
- 15.30 With Music in Mind
- 15.45 Announcement of Competition Winners.
Mayor Cllr John Andrew says: "Whether or not you are a royalist, this is an historic event. Less than one in five of the Welsh population have witnessed a Coronation before. Cowbridge is an ancient town with records of the marking of several previous Coronations.
"This is our opportunity to mark this Coronation in style. For this weekend of events to be successful we need as many people as possible, adults and children, to get involved. Everything will be free and open to all.
"Unfortunately health and safety considerations prevent us from having a Coronation bonfire like the one shown in this photo from 1902 in Barry Island!
"If you would like to know how you can play your part please contact the Cowbridge Town Hall office ([email protected] or 01446 773385) or myself ([email protected]) or any Town Councillor or just turn up to our final planning meeting which will be at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, 26 April in the Council Chamber of Cowbridge Town Hall. All are welcome.
"If you are planning your own event in Cowbridge, Llanblethian and Aberthin, such as a street party, that's great. It would be good if you could let us know so that we have an overview of all the activities in the area."
