A severe weather warning has been issued for towns across the Vale, including Cowbridge.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning about heavy rain in Cowbridge lasting from today until Sunday 1 November, that could cause flooding and disruption to transport.

This warning means that:

- Flooding could cause damage to buildings

- Delays to train and bus services are possible

- Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures

- Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and buildings

- Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads

- There is a small chance of fast-flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life

Extra care should be taken when driving through heavy rain and strong winds. The Met Office advised avoiding travel during these stormy periods, but if your journey is necessary you should stick to main roads where there is less likely to be debris and flooding.

Drivers should also take extra caution to leave space between themselves and traffic in front in wet weather, slow down in conditions with poor visibility and use dipped headlights if their own visibility is seriously reduced.

If you encounter a flooded road, the Met Office warns against driving through the water. Just 12 inches of moving water can float a car, so a road can be deceptively dangerous in these conditions.

Cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians are also vulnerable when travelling in these conditions, as they are more likely to be blown around by side winds. The Met Office advises keeping a safe distance from them.
