The Town Hall and Finance & Governance Committee meetings were held on Tuesday, March 1.
The Town Hall Committee were updated on the planned renewal of the two low-level Town Hall roofs. The work is unfortunately delayed pending listed building consent and the Finance & Governance Committee agreed to proceed with an overhaul of the Town Council website.
On Wednesday, March 2, some councillors attended a meeting hosted by landscape architects from Arup to discuss potential uses for the area under the bypass by Aberthin Road.
The area is currently used as an unofficial car park by Cowbridge Comprehensive School pupils and there have been a variety of reports of antisocial behaviour in the area.
The Vale of Glamorgan Council has engaged Arup to prepare proposals for the area. The intention is to have an outline scheme by the end of March.
Before anything is finalised there will be public consultation. Improvements to the area will certainly be welcome.
On the evening of Wednesday, March 2, the Town Council hosted a meeting with representatives of local community groups to discuss possible events to be held to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee from June 2 to June 5, 2022.
Cowbridge Chamber of Trade, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions Club, Cowbridge Rotary, Cowbridge Rugby Club, St John's Ambulance, British Legion, Y Bont Faen WI, Cowbridge Amateur Dramatic Society, Y Bont Faen Primary School were also in attendance.
The main event discussed was the lighting of a beacon on the evening of Thursday, June 2. Consideration was given to where this could be held and what activities could run to enhance the event. It was said that a number of street parties are already being planned for Sunday, June 5.
The participants agreed to hold discussions with their groups and come together for the second meeting in early April.
The current Town Council, formed in 2017 following the local elections in May of that year, will soon be coming to the end of its five-year term.
A new council will be created after the local elections on 5th May 2022. Meanwhile, the work of the Town Council continues although councillors must respect the pre-election guidance.
On May 5, 2022, local electors will be able to vote for Vale of Glamorgan Councillors and, depending on the number standing, Town Councillors.
There are 15 seats on the Town Council: five for Cowbridge Ward, four each for the wards of Llanblethian East and West and two for Aberthin ward.
Elections are only held for each of these wards if there are more candidates standing than there are seats.
If you have ideas for improving Cowbridge, Llanblethian and Aberthin why not consider standing for election as a Town Councillor at the election in May.

The next council meeting will be on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. As always this is open to members of the public who can attend either in person in the Council Chamber or online.
