Cowbridge Council has secured a £10,000 grant from the National Lottery to upgrade the play equipment at Llanblethian Playing Fields.

This amount will be combined with £5,000 of the council's own money, and a further £3,000 of capital funding from Play Wales, making the total budget for the park project £18,000.

Councillor Reese Watkins will consult with play companies, and then a public consultation will be completed by March.

"I've got a couple of meetings for January, I've got one more company to get on board," Cllr Watkins told the council.

"The idea is they'll bring an outline project plan.

"What I'm looking for them to do is see what concepts they have and what they can do and we can go off the back of that," he said.

The meet the requirements for the funding, the council must complete a public consultation on the plans by the end of March.

Councillor Marian Arnold expressed concern about the short timeframe for the project.

"We have to have the plans and we have to ask the schools and schoolchildren what they want and we've got to do it by 31 March," she said.

"That is a very, very tight amount of time to do anything with. So, we have to do it, and we have to do it right."

Mayor Sian Vaughan agreed the timescale was tight, and confirmed the community consultation will go ahead.
