Win a Victorian home in Somerset for just £5 - luxury living with a cause
A beautifully renovated Victorian townhouse in Frome could be yours for just £5 as part of a unique raffle aiming to raise funds for The Busoga Trust, a charity providing clean water and sanitation to rural communities in Uganda.
The seven-bedroom home on Nunney Road in Frome features over 3,000 sq ft of living space, including a self-contained one-bedroom annexe.
Frome, a market town in Somerset, has garnered media attention for its bohemian and artistic atmosphere. The town has attracted a community of unpretentious bohemian and arty residents, contributing to its charm.
With its blend of modern luxury and historic charm, the property offers spacious living areas, a beautifully landscaped garden, and off-street parking—a rarity in central Frome.
The homeowner, an interior designer, decided to raffle the house instead of selling it traditionally after being inspired by similar initiatives.
"A couple of months ago, a friend told me she had run a successful raffle on an online platform to raise money for charity," she explained. "Around the same time, I had become aware of the advertisements online for one of the house raffles run by another provider, where people can win a home while supporting a charity. That is when I thought, I own a very valuable house that is currently for sale. It is a large property and can only be bought by someone with significant funds, which rules out a lot of people who would love the chance to live here. What if I raffled it instead?"
The raffle offers more than just the chance to own a dream home—10% of ticket proceeds will go directly to The Busoga Trust. This small charity has spent 40 years transforming lives in Uganda, ensuring communities have access to safe water and sanitation.
"I have always believed that when you are in a position to help others, you should do it," she said. "I live in a beautiful house in a country where running water and sanitation is an expected basic. It's hard to imagine that so many people, especially women and children, have to spend hours every day fetching water, often from unsafe sources. This really struck a chord with me."
The property features a spacious kitchen-diner with herringbone oak flooring, a walk-in pantry, and aluminium-framed doors that open onto the garden. The top-floor suite has a Juliet balcony and a Velux Cabrio window offering stunning views over Frome's rooftops.
Perfectly located, the house is a short stroll from Frome's thriving town centre, with its array of independent shops and cafes, and a short drive to Bath, Glastonbury, and Babington House.
The town of Frome, in Somerset, has been repeatedly voted one of the best places in the South West to live is famed for its strong community, Independent Council and monthly designer-maker-producer street market. It also boasts two theatres, a three screen cinema, two colleges, a hospital and numerous thriving arty indie independent shops and restaurants.
The area is known for its excellent schooling options, including Frome Media Arts College, All Hallows, Downside, Millfield, Wells Cathedral School, Sunnyhill, and Kings School, Bruton. Transport links are robust, with direct mainline railway services from Frome to London Paddington taking approximately 86 minutes. The national motorway network is accessible via the A303 (M3), and Bristol Airport is less than 30 miles away.
Tickets for the raffle cost £5, and the homeowner has created a special promo code, 44RIV3, which gives Nub News readers three bonus tickets for every paid entry. The raffle closes on 7 December, or when all tickets are sold.
If fewer than 300,000 tickets are sold, the winner will receive a cash prize equal to 50% of the ticket revenue. However, if the target is reached, the winner will receive the house mortgage-free, with stamp duty and legal fees included.
