The winner of this year's Six Nations Competition from Cowbridge Rotary Club has donated his £100 prize to the club's Ukraine fund.

Peter John, the proprietor of the Arthur John & Co Farm Shop and one-time captain of Cowbridge Rugby Club, was announced the winner of the £100 prize pot, after predicting 14 correct results of the 15 international matches.

Mr John has generously donated his winnings back to the Cowbridge Rotary Club Ukrainian fund. These funds are being sent directly to the Rotary Club of Warsaw in Poland which is purchasing medical supplies locally and shipping them to the Rotary Club of Kyiv.

Now that the club has finalised the total profit made on this year's competition (£278.00), they have decided that will go towards the appeal directly to Poland and have added a further £500 in support of this work.

A total of £878.00 has now been sent and the club is discussing potential ways to raise more money for the people of Ukraine.

This year's competition resulted in a very close finish with several entrants correctly predicting the results of 14 of the 15 International matches.

Because of this, the club had to decide on the winner that predicted the nearest number of tries scored across all matches.

A total of 74 tries were scored and Mr John was just two tries out predicting 72.

Malcolm Hallewell, president of the Cowbridge Rotary Club, expressed his thanks to Peter for his generosity and to everyone who took part in this year's competition.

As COVID-19 restrictions are now eased, the club is arranging an information event on Saturday, April 9 between 09:00 and 15:00.

"We are looking at encouraging residents with some time on their hands to come and join us in our work for those in need, be it locally, nationally or internationally," said Malcolm.

A gazebo will be placed outside Caffè Nero opposite Waitrose and everyone is welcome to stop by and find out what Cowbridge Rotary Club has planned for the future.
