New figures released yesterday (Friday, 1 May) show that 3 coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded in Cowbridge and the nearby area since the pandemic began.

The figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show, for the first time, deaths at a local level for people who have contracted Covid-19.

12-year-old Cai Floyd has spin cycled the distance between his home in Cowbridge and the Nightingale Hospital in London, a total of 172 miles (276k), over three days raising funds for the Cardiff and Vale Health Charity.

Usually, Cai attends Cowbridge Comprehensive school but the lockdown means he is at home and wanted to find a way to support our local NHS services and the staff during COVID-19.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has awarded nearly 500 frontline staff, in Cowbridge and around the Vale, a 10 per cent salary uplift in recognition of their efforts during the coronavirus crisis.

Drivers with an expiring MOT before Monday the 30th, who need to use their vehicle, will still need to get their vehicle tested to stay legal on the road.

Western Power Distribution has announced that there has been a power cut recorded in Cowbridge, CF71 and surrounding areas

This means that 673 properties are currently without power due to a High Voltage incident (these incidents tend to be larger, affecting the wider area and could mean your neighbours are off supply too).

South Wales Police in the Vale of Glamorgan has praised communities for coming together and helping each other but warn of the small number of scammers and fraudsters that will use this as an opportunity to take advantage of vulnerable people.
