Cowbridge Male Voice Choir celebrated its 50th anniversary last week with a virtual performance of 'If We Only Have Love', to say 'thank you' to our NHS and social care workers.

To produce the video recording, choir members each filmed themselves singing along to the CD recording of the song.

Then one of the choir members, who works as a TV editor, put all the videos together.

"It would have been impossible without the web," said secretary Phillip Insley said.

"We rehearse every Wednesday and then most Saturday nights we also have a social evening.

"Every other Saturday we have a quiz, and in between those we have something funny, like cocktail nights or poetry nights.

"We split into four parts, so we each rehearse for half an hour. Our musical director Rhiannon Williams sends us out podcasts of each part.

She's very talented so she plays and sings each of the parts.

"So, we keep it going!" he said.

Of the current 70 members, Phillip said that there are a couple original members.

Cowbridge Male Voice Choir has also featured on Good Morning Britain, singing at Forage Farm at sunrise on 27 August last year.

"ITV News have been very good to us," said Phillip.

"We were the first choir to restart singing together after the first lockdown. The news team came and filmed us as the sun rose.

"Then the next week they asked if we could do another one!

"To get all these calls is fantastic. We had a really bad time of it two and a half years ago. Our musical director who had been there almost the whole time died of cancer. We were really fortunate to have Rhiannon join us," he said.
