Sir Anthony Hopkins visited Cowbridge yesterday, after becoming the oldest-ever winner of the Best Actor Award at the BAFTAs.

The award-winning actor made an appearance at Happy Days Vintage Homestore yesterday afternoon.

Owner Cath Jones told Nub News this was not the first time Sir Anthony had visited the shop, as his wife Stella Arroyave was an antiques dealer, and together they share an interest in the vintage offerings at Happy Days.

"I didn't recognise him at first, I mistook him for another regular customer because we've got all got masks on!" said Cath.

"I went 'Oh hello David, it's lovely to see you, how have you been? It is David isn't it?' and then his team said 'It's Sir Anthony Hopkins'.

"We spoke then, I congratulated him on his award, and we had a nice chat about what he's been up to during lockdown in Malibu.

"He was saying about how they're on holiday here in Wales, and his wife bought some things.

"We had a photo, it was a mask off/mask on situation for one second, so it's quite a funny photo," she said.

Sir Anthony has visited Happy Days twice before now. In 2016, he had finished filming Transformers: The Last Knight in the UK.

Cath recalled that he was showing his wife where he used to go to school, on Church Street when they spotted the Happy Days sign.

They returned again in 2019 to buy more vintage pieces to take home to Los Angeles.

"Usually, they come in and have something to eat and drink, but unfortunately our tea room is closed at the moment due to Covid guidance," said Cath.

"But he was more than happy to sit outside and have a chat with us.

"Having Sir Anthony and his wife visit us on our second day of reopening was such a mood lifter and what we all needed here at Happy Days after being closed for the last 16-weeks."
