Bar 44 has raised £500 for Cancer Research UK by selling 'Dad Rog's' pickled onions.
Run by siblings Natalie Isaac, Tom Morgan, and Owen Morgan, Bar 44 first opened in Cowbridge in 2002 and has expanded to four more venues since.
Natalie, 44 Group director, said the support from Cowbridge customers buying their father Roger's pickled onions had been amazing.
"In early 2012 our dad was diagnosed with tongue cancer," said Natalie.
"As a family have lost quite a few people to cancer.
"Our dad had amazing treatment and since retiring he spends a lot of time raising money for Cancer Research, and our mum is on the Cancer Research committee in Wales as well.
"Since they retired they've wanted to do something to help and our customers all know our mum and dad from when they would eat in restaurant," she said.
Roger makes his pickled onions every Christmas to sell at a festive coffee morning, and also fundraises by selling his paintings and picture cards of local landscapes.
"Obviously that couldn't go on this year and he had made all the onions," said Natalie.
"So, we decided to put them on Mercado44, and they sold out within a week.
"There was a massive waiting list, but they just couldn't peel the onions fast enough.
"If I could find a way of buying pickling onions already peeled, we'd have them in stock all the time because they literally sit for hours peeling pickling onions," she said.
They managed to sell 100 jars at £5 each, raising a total of £500 for the charity.
"As a business we try and do a different charity every year," said Natalie.
"It's been nice to still be able to support a charity this year even though we've been closed for most of it and not taken in any money.
"We had so much support in Cowbridge. We had so many orders. It was absolutely amazing.
"It in no way replaces the revenue of five restaurants but it is just amazing that we've got that support.
"It meant we could get some of our staff back in on flexi-furlough and it massively helps our suppliers because they had ordered in our December stock and committed to it," she said.
