Cowbridge Town Council is appealing for people to think about what waste they are leaving at public sites, after fly-tipping at Twt park.

Recently the litter bins at the park, provided by the town council for the community that use the park, are being abused say the council.

Items left include a large pot of Dulux paint, an electric heater, Christmas decorations, Dog food ordered from Tails.com for someone called Brian, household food waste in a green bag and a number wine bottles left every week possibly from a house in Town Mill Road.

"These bins are emptied by the Town Council Staff and the Council have a contract with Biffa waste to remove the litter which goes to landfill," said Mayor Sian Vaughan.

"The Vale of Glamorgan Council take away bottles and food waste for recycling every week from the doorstep.

"So please can we ask that these items of household rubbish which are not litter are not left in the park as they are so easy to recycle from home.

"In addition, at present due to lockdown the bins are fuller than usual of coffee cups from Costa and Cafe Nero and these are not being recycled.

"The Town Council intends to speak to these companies to see if they can assist with this problem."

Cowbridge Town Council are due to install a few new litter bins that have a covered top to assist the staff with emptying.

The current bins have an open top which collects liquid coffee or tea dregs, rainwater and snow.

"On emptying these leak the liquid all over the clothes and shoes of the person emptying the bins," said Mayor Vaughan.

"Please can we ask that you think before you dump and keep the play park clean for the many children that are enjoying the park."
