The Cowbridge Amateur and Dramatic Society (CADS) is celebrating 75 years with a two-act production at The Market Theatre this week.
Bed Among the Lentils by Alan Bennett and Mr Ellis Versus the People by Jack Rosenthal is the to-act play that opened on Wednesday, April 6 and will finish on Saturday, April 9.
Caron Reidy, a committee member of the society and is featured in the first act of the production, told Nub News: "We were looking for something a bit different and, after the theatre went dark during the main part of the pandemic, we managed to do one show near the end of last year.
"We wanted to get as many of our actors involved as possible and we decided on Mr Ellis Versus the People which is the second act and it was a screenplay written by Jack Rosenthal. It's never been performed on stage, so we contacted his estate and asked if we could do it and they were absolutely thrilled!"
The play is including 19 of the society's members, including the former mayor of Cowbridge, Peter Knapp. "We've also got some new members that have recently joined us," said Caron. "It's a great way to introduce them and give them a handful of lines and see how they feel because some have never acted before."
The society usually performs three times a year: one production in April, one in July and another in October or early November.
