The Cowbridge beacon was lit at precisely 21:45 on Thursday, June 2, 2022, along with beacons all across the country.

The lighting of the Cowbridge beacon was performed by Jane Williams, Cowbridge's Coronation baby, to cheers from the crowd which broke into an impromptu rendering of the National Anthem.

The lighting was preceded by performances by the Rock Choir, Stage Door 1 and Stagecoach Theatre Arts. To fanfare the lighting Charlotte Leeke played Majesty, a piece of music written specifically for the event, on the trumpet.

Fortunately, the weather for the event was excellent and a good crowd came along to enjoy the evening. The bar at the Rugby Club did good business as did Shampan, who provided an Indian buffet, and Fablas Ice Cream.

The Queen made an appearance, having made her way from The Bay Tree. Many people took the opportunity to have their photo taken with her.

The Master of Ceremonies for the evening was the Cowbridge Town Crier, Jon Wilks, who, as well as introducing all the performers and announcing the winners of the Cowbridge Chamber of Trade Art Competition, lead everyone in singing Sweet Caroline.

Earlier in the day, in front of Cowbridge Town Hall, the Town Crier projected his magnificent voice to proclaim the lighting of the Beacon later using the nationally prescribed proclamation.

The beacon lighting event was organised by Cowbridge with Llanblethian Town Council, supported by Cowbridge Rugby Club, Cowbridge Chamber of Trade, Cowbridge Rotary, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions Club, St John Ambulance and Cowbridge Fire Service. Local MP, Alun Cairns, was present and congratulated the town on a good event.

In recognition of having organised the lighting of a Jubilee beacon, the town has been awarded a Certificate by Bruno Peek, the Pageantmaster.
