Shared Regulatory Services have issued a warning to businesses in the Vale of Glamorgan, regarding a telephone scam.

SRS, the body responsible for maintaining trading standards across the Vale, Cardiff and Bridgend local authority areas, has been made aware of a incidents involving a suspicious call.

Businesses in Cardiff reported a male telephoning to demand a payment of £250 for a food hygiene rescore, warning that failure to pay will lead to a fine, said a business engagement officer.

The male may be referring to himself as 'James' in this call.

This is a scam and should not be responded to in any way.

"We understand that some businesses have made a payment over the phone, and so we urge you not to do so, as you may find it difficult to recover that payment.

"If you do receive such a call, please inform South Wales Police via 101, or email us to let us know: [email protected]."
