The Vale council is enforcing its zero-tolerance policy on fly-tipping after three people have been issued fixed penalty notices.
Enforcement Officers from the council's Waste Crime Unit have been investigating three separate fly-tipping incidents in Barry town centre from early this year.
Each incident involved large amounts of household waste being unlawfully dumped in rear access lanes.
Two of the suspects failed to co-operate with the officers and the third suspect admitted to the offence.
Each offender was issued with a £400 fixed penalty notice for the offence of fly-tipping. If the offenders fail to pay the fines within 14 days, the offer of a Fixed Penalty will be withdrawn and each case will be prosecuted at the Magistrates' Court.
Upon conviction, the offenders would receive a criminal record, face a fine of up to £50,000 and/or a prison sentence.
Cllr Mark Wilson, the cabinet member for Neighbourhood and Building Services, said: "The council has a zero-tolerance towards fly-tipping and is pleased to have identified the people behind these recent incidents.
"Our environmental enforcement officers respond to reports of fly-tipping and patrol known hotspots regularly.
"The council will continue to take this issue seriously and deliver repercussions to anyone found to have committed the offence."
Incidents of fly-tipping can be reported on the council's website here.
