The Vale council's Enforcement Team is carrying out their regular coastal patrols by bicycle to mark National Bike Week.

Linked to the council's Project Zero initiative, which aims to significantly reduce carbon output by 2030, the team are taking steps to make greener choices.

In addition to being more environmentally friendly, the team hope this will help them to cover more ground and improve efficiency whilst out on patrol.

These initiatives follow a range of bicycle-friendly steps taken by the council, including the recent unveiling of new, free to use bicycle repair stations throughout the Vale.

The council has also recently announced the completion of cycle tracks throughout schools in the Vale and a new active travel route in St Athan.

National Bike Week runs from June 6-12 and people are encouraged to get out and about and enjoy their community by bike.

Cllr Bronwen Brooks, deputy leader and cabinet member for Sustainable Places, said: "As part of the Council's commitment to reduce carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030, I am pleased to announce this summer, members of the Council Enforcement Team will be patrolling our coastal resorts by e-bike throughout this summer.

"The team are taking many steps to make the work eco-friendly. All of their shirts, baseball caps, jackets, boots and parkvests are made from recycled material.

"While this is a small change, it is hoped that this type of idea can be rolled out further, where practicable. This will be better for our environment and better for the council staff during warm summer months."
