Last Sunday [5 September] the town's most prestigious pups and their owners gathered for Cowbridge Doggy show, organised by Cowbridge Rotary Club.

What a day, from an event that was organised quickly when we knew we could do so under strict Covid guidelines, we are so pleased to report a great success.

Over 240 dogs registered with a variety of breeds and cross breeds from the smallest to the largest dogs that could be imagined.

Our thanks must go to all those on the organising committee led by Rotarians Sian Whitefield and David Harris, who worked so hard by arranging sponsors, organising the ground and in general keeping us all in control.

In addition we must thank Cowbridge Scouts for the use of their HQ facilities.

We are still working on the finances of the day, but no matter what that is, the benefit to our local community far outweighed any profits on the day after so many months of lockdown.

Cowbridge Rotary President, Malcolm Hallewell stated "that when we started this new project the members wanted to bring some fun to the people who have supported the club over the 60 years since it was formed.

"We feel that we have achieved this, by additionally bringing in local traders and organisations to ensure we kept it local let alone the favourable comments that have been made on Facebook.

"We are so thankful for the support of the community and the superb support of television and radio, and what more could we have asked for with commentary throughout the day from Lucy Owen and Claire Summers and the attendance of Rhoddri Owen and the film crew from S4C.

"For Rotary events to be shown on television is something very special and allows us to promote the work of the organisation fully."

Having now completed the event the club will now sit down and review the positive and negative elements so that we can start to plan for an even bigger and better event next year.

One thing we believe is that this event is firmly in the calendar plans for the area and will form a staple annual event.

Rotary like many organisations need new members and should anyone feel they could give their time to help with this and the other ideas in our programme then please get in touch via messaging or through our Cowbridge web site.

The final comments on the day from Club President Malcolm were: "Thank you everyone for making this day special to me and a memorable day for the club."
