Two local eateries have been recognised in the Michelin Guide 2021.

Arboreal, on Eastgate Mews, has appeared in the guide every year since 2015, and the Hare and Hounds pub in Aberthin retained its 'Bib Gourmand' award for a fourth consecutive year.

This makes the Hare and Hounds the highest-rated restaurant with Michelin in the Vale and Cardiff.

Sam Morgan, co-owner of Arboreal, said she was proud of the recognition and that it was "really positive" to be featured for their lockdown takeaways .

"I've seen quite a few inspectors over our time, but it is the one thing that we make sure we apply for each year," she said.

Sam also described how they had turned the effects of the pandemic into positives: "It's the first time we've been able to take a breather and look at our business model," she said.

"We've been able to adapt into a new world generation which involves technology, which has worked really well during the pandemic.

"We started again from scratch and completely remodelled the business and I think now I'd be much less scared in the future to make changes. But it's obviously been hard work.

"To see that we have been able to adapt into a takeaway and create something that boxes up nicely and travels well has been really positive."

Arboreal is open for takeaways on Friday and Saturday, something Sam said has allowed them to deal with inner Cowbridge customers more, compared to being a destination kitchen and bar.

The Bib Gourmand awarded to the Hare and Hounds recognises eateries offering good quality food at a modest price.

"It's the greatest accolade our country pub could have," a social media post read.

"It's particularly wonderful news after such a stressful year...we can't wait to be open and serving our food again.

"Thank you and well done to our wonderful team without who this wouldn't be possible and of course to our lovely customers...we miss you."
