Following a visit from Environmental Health on Friday, Cowbridge Farm Shop is no longer allowed to let customers interact with its animals.

The shop was letting customers interact with lambs as they came to collect food orders.

Cowbridge Farm Shop says it was reported for "running an attraction", but is now working with Environmental Health to obtain the right license and resume interactions when restrictions allow from the end of the month.

"We are, needless to say, really very sad about this. We were not charging for customers to visit the animals; however, we've been reported as running an attraction," wrote the team on social media.

"We understand that this will mean that lots of our customers won't be so keen to visit now, but we hope you will be able to honour your food orders."

"The impression we were getting from the council was everything was fine as long as people were buying produce from us," Mike Robins told Nub News.

"But then following complaints, the police came onto the farm and they made the decision to shut it on Friday.

"It was just the fact that the Environmental Health Officer thought it was unfair for us to be open while other attractions were closed.

Cowbridge Farm Shop received enormous support from the community over the Easter weekend.

The team were optimistic about continuing click and collect orders and recommencing animal interactions once restrictions permit them.

A Vale of Glamorgan Council spokesperson said: "This site was visited on Good Friday by officers from the Council's Shared Regulatory Service (SRS).

"Advice was given on which activities are permitted under current coronavirus restrictions and which are not.

"A separate investigation is also under way to establish whether planning permission is required for any of the activities being undertaken at the site.

"SRS and Planning officers will continue to work with the business to provide appropriate advice on current coronavirus and planning restrictions."
