An outdoor concert for the Cowbridge community to raise money for the people of Ukraine will take place at the end of next month.

The concert will be held at the Bear Field on May 28, starting at 13:30 and finishing at 18:00.

Guests can attend for free but are welcome to make donations at the entry point and donation buckets throughout the afternoon.

Jon Wilks, 58, chair of the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir, told Cowbridge Nub News: "I was watching the TV coverage of what's going on in Ukraine and I just thought it was awful.

"Why doesn't Cowbridge come together as a community to raise a significant amount of money for Ukrainian charities? That's where the idea for a big outdoor concert came about, where we'd have a proper stage, lighting, and amplification."

Cowbridge Rotary Club, Llantwit Major and Cowbridge Lions, and the Cowbridge (Ancient Borough) with Llanblethian Town Council are also involved in organising the concert and have collectively agreed on a £10,000 target.

The organisers are now keen to hear from local musicians and bands who would be interested in performing at the concert. "We want local community bands, choirs, soloists, and performers to fill the whole schedule," said Jon.

"The idea is for the concert to be a constant feast of musical performances of all genres, and we'd love to get lots of involvement from local schools.

"We just want the whole Cowbridge community to come together to raise a huge amount of money for these poor Ukrainian people."

A licence for the concert has now been granted by the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

If you are interested in performing at the concert, you can contact the organisers at [email protected] or you can call Jon Wilks on 07900 570172.
