A new exhibition from a local artist showcasing animal and seascape pieces has started at Fredwell Café & Pâtisserie in Aberthin.

The exhibition features varied artworks from Carol Kibble, 56, a self-employed artist and art tutor who lives in Wick.

Carol told Cowbridge Nub News: "I popped to the café with a friend and Chris, one of the owners, mentioned that they were dedicating a wall to local artists, and I thought it was a really nice idea."

Pieces will change over the course of the exhibition and all work will be for sale. "I have 12 paintings on display at the moment and the majority are of animals," said Carol. "Puffins, elephants, swans, swallows, and racoons, but I've also got at least one seascape piece and I'll be putting up a couple more local pieces soon.

"I just hope people will enjoy the paintings as they have a cup of coffee and their brunch, but it's also an opportunity for me to get some new students to join one of my local workshops."

Carol also teaches in-person workshops as well as Zoom classes since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. "My main medium is pastels and that's what I teach in too, but I use it in a lot of different ways. Some of my work is very representational and traditional, and other pieces of my work are a lot looser and a bit quirky."

"I love being a tutor and it's a bigger part of my job than selling my work. It's giving something back and it's a huge pleasure to see someone progress."

The exhibition is due to finish at the end of May.
