The Vale Probus Club based in Cowbridge is seeking more members to join for monthly meetings and social events.

Probus clubs are based around the UK and are an opportunity for retired professional men to network.

In Vale Probus, there is a wide variety of professions – doctors, dentists, oilmen, engineers, former police officers, company directors, and former military men.

Meetings are held on the last Tuesday of every month at The Bear Hotel, St Quentins Suite at 10:00 or 10:30 and finishing around 12:00 when members are invited to lunch in the bar.

A speaker addresses each meeting and in March Nicky Piper, the former boxer was the speaker. On April 26, Rev. Michael Wishart will talk about the Chaplain's branch of the Royal Navy.

Social events take place throughout the year. A treasure hunt will take place in May, a day trip to the National Botanic Gardens in Llanarthne in July, a guided tour of Llantrisant in October, and a tour of the Wales Millennium Centre in November.

Partners and spouses of members are also welcome to join social events.

In the last few months, the club has had informal coffee mornings in Cowbridge which offer members a chance to get to know one another and socialise after a few difficult years.

There is an annual fee of £40 to join which covers the cost of room hire and guest speakers.

If this group interests you, contact the secretary, Peter Durham at [email protected]
