Cowbridge's Mayor Siân Vaughan has wished congratulations and Happy Birthday to Cowbridge Rotary Club, which celebrated its 60th anniversary last week.

The club held a "Zoom Meeting" to specially recognise this occasion, albeit it is hoped that a more formal celebration can take place later in the year, when face-to-face gatherings are permitted.

Club President Steve Pearce said the celebration was about "celebrating the work of innumerable people over the last 60 years and all the presidents that went before.

The Mayor's letter read:

"Congratulations and Happy 60th Birthday to Cowbridge Rotary Club. It is a fantastic achievement for any club that relies on volunteers to last for 60 years.

"Cowbridge is lucky to have such an active and vibrant group as it enriches and enhances the Town and area that we all live in.

"I am aware of many projects the Rotary Club have been involved in over the years including Dementia Friendly Cowbridge, working with Longmeadow Court. Many fundraising events for local charities through car boot sales, Santa at Christmas, and Open Gardens.

"I have enjoyed many of these events myself especially the Open Gardens. What fantastic gardeners some of you are. I understand that Hafal and the Amelia Trust Farm were your charities last year and I am sure they were extremely grateful for your support.

"I know that you are also outward looking and have worked with Vale for Africa over the past few years to provide fresh water supplies for schools in the Tororo District of Uganda. This enables people less fortunate than ourselves to have a service that we take for granted.

"The pandemic of 2020 which is still ongoing in 2021 has changed all of our lives beyond recognition. However, I am sure that your Club will continue its good work and activities for many more years to come.

Many Congratulations to you all."
