The Vale of Glamorgan Council is responding to concerns from residents by installing a new section of street lighting along Frampton Lane.

Sue Roscrow, who lives in the village, asked for lighting to be introduced to the previously unlit area for safety reasons and felt that it was an area where people might be uncomfortable walking in the dark.

A system of street lighting is already in place between the junction of Llanmaes Road leading to the residential properties at Heol Pentre Felin.

This will now be extended up to the residential footpath by Clos y Wiwer, with work also including the creation of a new road crossing.

According to the council, the streetlights will feature LED bulbs, which are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

Cllr Peter King, cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, said: "While we are not aware of anyone encountering problems on this section of Frampton Lane, we want everyone in our communities to feel safe when out after dark.

"Mrs Roscrow raised concerns and as a result, we have extended street lighting provision in this area of Llantwit Major.

Mr King continued: "I hope this will boost residents' confidence when walking at night and help reassure them that Llantwit Major is an extremely safe place to live.

"The lights are installed with feature LED bulbs, which are much better for the planet. This underlines our Project Zero commitment, which aims to make the council carbon neutral by 2030."
