Calls for Boris Johnson to resign are increasing but there is no word from our local MP Alun Cairns on where he stands.

It comes after the publication of Sue Gray's report which concluded that there were "failures of leadership and judgement in No 10 and the Cabinet Office" over the Partygate scandal.

The 48-page report provides details of 16 events that took place at Downing Street and other locations between May 2020 and April 2021. A number of Covid breaches were found including images of some gatherings.

Mr Johnson has denied being a habitual liar and in an interview with Mumsnet posted on YouTube today (June 1), he said resigning now would be "irresponsible".

Cowbridge Nub News has reached out to Mr Cairns' team on two separate occasions but no response has been made.

At the time of writing this article, 28 MPs have submitted letters of confidence and 54 are needed for Mr Johnson to resign, under Conservative Party rules.
