Otters spotted in Cowbridge town centre section of River Thaw A video of two otters in the River Thaw by Filco in Cowbridge town centre was seen by hundreds yesterday. Cowbridge Nub News shared the recording, originally taken by Charlotte Ballantyne, with readers saying it was "awesome" and an "amazing spectacle" to see the otters in the river. Nub News spoke to local wildlife photographer and enthusiast Oscar Wainwright to find out more about why these otters came so close into town. Vale Council agrees to turn former livestock market site into food retailer The Vale of Glamorgan Council has agreed to market the site of the former livestock market for a food shop. Cabinet approved the report to market the land for a "medium-sized food retailer" in yesterday's meeting. The proposal, which includes a public car park, aims "to improve the retail offer of Cowbridge town centre". Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Education and Regeneration Cllr Lis Burnett said marketing the land at The Butts was about "getting a positive development for the town". Final plans to demolish old girls' school set to go before planning committee as conservation groups continue the fight to preserve historic building The local conservation group to save Cowbridge's girl's school on Aberthin Road is calling for people to object to the finalised plans that would see the historic building demolished. Campaign group Save Cowbridge's Girls' School says it has received confirmation that there are no further amendments to the plans that would see the building, which dates back to 1896, demolished and 30 flats and four houses constructed in its place. The group says there are now 21 days for objections to be submitted. Decision due in April on controversial new Vale road linking A48 and M4 A decision is due in April on whether to press ahead with plans to build a controversial new road in the Vale of Glamorgan. The proposed road would link Junction 34 on the M4 with Sycamore Cross on the A48, and would cost more than £66 million. Cardiff and Vale on track to vaccinate first four priority groups by end of the week Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is set to have offered Covid jabs to the first four priority groups by the end of the week. So far, the health board has vaccinated 87,990 people. The third mass vaccination centre opened in Barry this week, in addition to the two centres at Pentwyn and Splott. The first four priority groups include all residents in a care home for older adults and their carers, all those aged 70 or over, frontline health and social workers, and clinically extremely vulnerable people.
