A pupil at Cowbridge Comprehensive School has been arrested after being found in possession of cannabis.

South Wales Police confirmed that on Thursday 25 March, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply the drug.

He has been questioned by officers and released under investigation.

An email from Vale Chief Inspector Tony Williams seen by Nub News reads:

"I just wanted to update you regarding an incident at Cowbridge Comprehensive School today.

"A pupil has been found in possession of cannabis and is believed to have been responsible for dealing to others both in and out of the school environment.

"This comes on the back of a report of a young person becoming unwell at the school yesterday.

"We have made an arrest, recovered some drugs and are currently investigating the matter.

"I wanted to provide an update that the matter is in hand in advance of any concerns being raised within the community.

"We are working with the school regarding wider safeguarding."

Mrs Thomas, Headteacher Cowbridge Comprehensive School, told Nub News she takes seriously any allegations relating to potential drug offences and that the school works closely with the police to take swift, proportionate action to investigate any suspicions reported to it.

"Any pupil found to be supplying illegal substances during the school day, on the school site, will be dealt with severely," she said.

"Supplying drugs is considered a serious breach of the school's behaviour policy and will result in a severe penalty being imposed, in line with relevant Welsh Government guidance and legislation.

"We can confirm that there are no safeguarding issues in connection with any reported incident at the school."
