Experimental 20mph limit through Aberthin delayed

Aberthin residents are disappointed that the experimental 20mph limit through the village has not yet been implemented, despite the planned start date last month.

In June, the Vale of Glamorgan Council approved the plans to commence the reduced speed limit from July and that the experimental orders will be in place for up to 18 months to gather feedback.

Town councillor for Aberthin Andrew Pritchard wrote to Vale Council leader Neil Moore to ask "why nothing has happened" as residents "feel let down".

In an email response seen by Nub News, Cllr Moore explained: "I had anticipated the scheme to start in July but due to unforeseen circumstance and had problems with obtaining the signage it was unavoidably delayed.

"My apologies. The scheme is due to start this week, all going well."

The scheme has also been delayed in Peterson-super-Ely, where the same experimental speed reduction was also due to begin.

Cllr Pritchard spoke of his disappointment at the delay, as Aberthin residents have tirelessly campaigned for improved road safety measures.

"It is disappointing that we have to wait so long for the improvement work to start why didn't the Vale council inform us Town councillors that they had problems obtaining signs?" said Cllr Pritchard.

"Let's hope the Vale Council can get this in place in readiness for the safe return to school for so many children at the village."
