Next Saturday, father and daughter Gareth and Alys Petty from Cowbridge will embark on a trek across Patagonia – hoping to raise £10,000 for the Marie Curie Hospice at Holme Towers in Penarth.
Gareth and Alys have spent the past two years organising events and collecting money in Waitrose car park to raise money for the cause.
Gareth said:
"2022 has been a tough year for many and the support of organisations like Marie Curie is so important for individuals and families in need of support with end of life care, and at times of bereavement.
"To keep this support available for all those who need it, the charity needs to keep raising vital funds.
"We are therefore aiming to raise £10,000 by undertaking a trek in Patagonia in November 2022. We will spend a week following the trail of Welsh settlers who established the colony in 1865 when around 160 people from various parts of Wales sailed from Liverpool aboard the Mimosa.
"This is a fantastic cause so we will be so grateful for any donations that you can give. We have been running all sorts of different activities over the last 12-months and there's is still plenty of opportunity to get involved.
"I'm now at an age where I think my marathon days are behind me and this seemed like a natural progression.
"In addition, I hope it will encourage Alys to keep up the family tradition of fundraising for these amazing organisations in the community."
