Local building company Ashdown Construction has won a Building Excellence Award from the Vale of Glamorgan Council for its work on the Forage Farm building.

The Building Excellence Award Scheme, organised by the Vale of Glamorgan Council Building Control team, demonstrates the Council's recognition of high standards in building work across the county.

Ashdown Construction was awarded the top prize in the 'Best Small Commercial Building' category.

The construction company, based at the Vale Business Park in Llandow, say it is "delighted" to receive the award, which commends high quality building, excellent construction techniques, communication skills and customer satisfaction.

Mike Gibbon, of Ashdown Construction said the company prides itself on a good relationship with building control.

"We work with them to make sure we get things right on all our buildings. It's a quality-first process, that's how we try to work in all aspects of the business," Mike told Nub News.

"The architect who designed it did very well, it's a quite inspired building.

"It was brilliant to work on an interesting, and sometimes tricky project.

There was an awful lot of work that went into it.

"Josh Gibbon managed the project, and it's testament to his approach that we won."

The award brochure describes the building as "situated beautifully within countryside surroundings despite having easy access from the A48.

"The single storey building was erected by the local contractor using a timber frame construction. The external timber cladding with decorative timber arrangement in front of the high-level windows provides a very contemporary look.

"There were design changes and technical queries throughout the build so regular site visits were vital to ensuring compliance, this resulted in a strong working relationship being established between the contractor and Building Control."

Also recognised in the awards was Herefordshire-based contractors Border Oak, for its work on Llwynhelig cottage, just north of Cowbridge.
