BT Openreach have announced plans to rollout their full fibre network to Colwinston, increasing broadbands speeds for local residents in the rural village.

The plans have been announced following communication between Openreach, residents and local MP Alun Cairns who has welcomed the upgrade and the positive impact it will have for both personal and business activity in the area.

The Vale MP said: "This is fantastic news that I am sure the whole Colwinston community greatly welcome.

"Good broadband speeds now provide a vital component to home life and I am thankful to Openreach for their work in extending the full fibre network into rural villages such as Colwinston.

"Also, with many people now working from home, it is increasingly important that people have access to fast internet to go about their work too."

Earlier in the year Llantwit Major received a commitment from Openreach to rollout full-fibre and the announcement on Colwinston is the next step in their plans for the rural Vale.

This news forms part of Openreach's plans to build ultrafast, ultra-reliable full fibre broadband for 10,757 premises in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Local Cllr Christine Cave also added her thanks, saying: "It is fantastic news that Openreach are extending their network to the rural Vale. I am hopeful this can be reflected elsewhere in cut off communities that rely on fast broadband for their day to day lives."
