The Vale of Glamorgan Council's cabinet has agreed to extend the contract of Parkwood Leisure, the facilities operator of Cowbridge Leisure Centre.

Parkwood Leisure, which runs six leisure centres in the Vale, originally signed a ten-year contract with the Council in August 2012.

At a Cabinet meeting on Monday 21 June, members agreed to extend that arrangement for another seven years.

An initial 5-year extension had already been agreed in principle when the Covid-19 pandemic struck.

It has now been agreed that "extending the contract is by far the best option for the Council and that a longer extension than 5 years is the optimum commercial approach."

Councillors in the Western Vale say they "are delighted with this decision as there were fears that the Council would close their Leisure Centres at Llantwit Major and Cowbridge if an agreement was not reached."
