The Cardiff and the Vale Health Board is warning patients of a recent spate of misinformation about Covid vaccine appointments.

The health board said it had been made aware of social media posts by members of the public with incorrect information about attending Mass Vaccination Centres.

It asked that only those aged 50 or over in the area who have not yet received their first Covid vaccine call the booking line to make an appointment.

CAVHB also asked that residents only attend a Mass Vaccination Centre if they have an appointment, or they would be turned away.

"Our teams in the booking centre and our Mass Vaccination Centres are working tirelessly to make sure we are as efficient as possible rolling out the vaccine to the priority groups," wrote the health board on social media.

"Misinformation regarding attending our Mass Vaccination Centres means our phone lines become very busy and we have longer than necessary queues at our centres.

"We are making excellent progress with the roll out of the COVID-19 vaccine and will keep you up-to-date as we progress through priority groups. Thank you for your continued co-operation."

In Wales, the current priority groups for Coronavirus vaccination are:

• Everyone aged 50 to 69

• Everyone aged over 16 with an underlying health condition which puts them at increased risk of serious illness with Covid-19 – including some people with learning disabilities and with severe mental illness

• Unpaid carers who provide care for someone who is clinically vulnerable to Covid-19

Subject to supply, the Welsh Government aims to have everyone in these groups vaccinated by the middle of this month.
