Families across Cowbridge are being urged to 'light up Wales' next Tuesday 23 March in memory of loved ones lost to Coronavirus.

Facebook group Covid-19 Families Wales has organised the day of remembrance one year on from when lockdown began in 2020.

Monuments and buildings will be lit yellow next Tuesday across the county, including Barry Town Hall, the Cenotaph, the Western Shelter, Penarth Pier and St Donats Castle.

"We've arranged for buildings to be lit in yellow," said group admin Andrea Williams.

"There will also be moments of silence at noon and 9pm."

The group are encouraging people across the country to get involved:

"Please join in and show your support by drawing or painting a yellow heart, lighting a candle or putting daffodils in your window, tie a yellow ribbon around a tree or plant in your garden with your loved one's name.

"Check in on someone you know who has been bereaved. Join in on the minutes of silence."

The event is in conjunction with Marie Curie's national Day of Reflection, on the same day.

The First Minister also announced there will be a National Coronavirus Commemorative Event broadcast on BBC One Wales and S4C at 5pm on 23 March, and that two commemorative woodlands will be planted.

There will be one in South Wales and one in North Wales: details of their locations are set to be announced shortly and Natural Resources Wales will engage with local communities to plan and design the woodlands.

The announcement of the woodlands was made today, one year on from the first Coronavirus death in Wales.

"Today, we mark a deeply sad anniversary as we remember the first person in Wales to die from coronavirus," said Mr Drakeford.

"Since that day too many people have been taken too soon. We remember them today and keep them in our hearts and our minds."
