Cowbridge Local, Matt Griffiths, will cycle the length of Wales in a crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting Y Bont Faen primary school.

Mr Griffiths, a retired Cardiff Devils division two captain, is a keen cyclist who hopes his ride will help raise vital funds.

A fundraising page has been set up through Just Giving which asks for donations to help with the maintenance of the school and to 'keep the school safe for our children to attend'.

Mr Griffiths said, ''[the school] doesn't have a great pot of money to use for maintenance issues and other day to day running costs''.

Matt Griffiths' daughter attends the local school so he is aware of the issues that they are facing.

He said, ''A number of us dads' help with maintenance jobs that are needed and I thought any extra money generated will also help with that.''

The ride will take place on Friday and hopes to attract as many donations as possible which will go towards helping the school.

Matt Griffiths said: ''It's 175 miles with 14200 feet of climbing. The route starts at Caernarvon and goes through Snowdonia, Elan Valley and Brecon Beacons before finishing at Cardiff Bay.

''Any donation would be greatly appreciated by myself and I'm sure the school too.''
