Man detained after armed police incident in Cowbridge

Armed police were called to Cowbridge town centre last night (July 26) after a man was seen carrying a knife. 

The High Street was closed both ways after the man was seen with the knife in the Westgate area of the town. 

A 20-year-old man was found and detained under the Mental Health Act.  

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: "At around 21:40 last night officers responded to a report of an incident on Westgate Street, Cowbridge where a man was seen in possession of a knife. 

"The police helicopter assisted with a search of the area. Armed officers were deployed as a precaution to ensure the safety of the public and police officers, 

"A 20-year-old man was located and detained under the Mental Health Act."
