New recycling service will launch in April for businesses
Vale of Glamorgan Council has launched a new commercial recycling service to help businesses meet the latest workplace recycling regulations in Wales. From 6 April, all workplaces in Wales will have to separate their waste for recycling in the same way most households do now.
The Welsh Government is introducing these changes to build on the success of separated household recycling and to improve recycling rates across workplaces.
Recycling rates in Wales are among the best in the world, with the Vale one of the best performing Welsh Local Authorities.
Businesses in the Vale can now subscribe to receive separated recycling collections with the Council's new low-cost, flexible, and sustainable commercial waste service.
The service offers three subscription options, designed to meet the needs of all business types and sizes, with prices starting from £104 per year.
Option one is a quad bag, suitable for small businesses that do not produce much recycling.
Option two is a selection of up to four separated recycling containers, suitable for small to medium businesses that produce a similar amount of waste to a standard household.
Option three is a bespoke package, suitable for medium to large businesses that produce larger amounts of waste.
All businesses have a legal duty to dispose of waste correctly, known as a duty of care. Upon sign-up to the service, the Council will provide customers with a duty of care certificate at no additional cost.
Cllr Mark Wilson, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services and Transport, said: "The new commercial recycling service is designed to make the transition to new Welsh Government commercial recycling regulations as easy as possible for businesses in the Vale.
"I'm delighted that we are able to offer customers a service that allows so much flexibility at a competitive price.
"In line with the Council's Project Zero initiative to become carbon neutral by 2030, the changes to regulations aim to increase recycling rates in workplaces, reducing carbon emissions, and building a greener Welsh economy."
