A new employment programme for people looking to get back into work will hold a drop-in session tomorrow (May 19) at Cowbridge Library.

The CELT Project will be at the library between 10:00 – 12:00 to offer advice and support for people over 18 years old to secure paid employment, retrain or update their skills.

Paul Pickering, 53, an employment mentor at the CELT Project, told Cowbridge Nub News: "It's a stepping stone for people who want to get back into employment, but need help to break down any barriers.

"Particularly in the Vale, we're helping people who live in rural areas, people over 50 years old to return to paid employment, people who feel excluded because of where they live, a lack of skills or long-term unemployment."

The CELT Project can also offer support in areas including basic Maths and English skills, advice on college courses, and writing a CV.

People dealing with mental health and physical health issues can gain the support they need from the programme. "We also offer courses on how to improve IT skills and we can help with work placements and volunteering," said Mr Pickering.

"The project offers part-time work placements for up to eight weeks for people who have been unemployed for a long time – it helps build up the necessary experience."

Drop-in sessions will eventually take place in all libraries across the Vale of Glamorgan and have already taken place at Barry Library.

The CELT Project is UK government-funded and is currently being piloted by ten local authorities in Wales.
