Parking charges are now being enforced at Cowbridge Town Hall car park.

Drivers can park for up to two hours free of charge, pay £2 for up to four hours or £6 for all day parking.

Disabled motorists and motorcycles can park free of charge.

At 10am morning, approximately two thirds of the car park was empty, though a steady stream of vehicles were entering.

Nub News spoke to one resident who said the charges were "diabolical".

"We've suffered enough financial pressures through the pandemic," he said.

"I know the Council have got to try and make money somewhere but it's on the backs of people who can't afford it.

"As a pensioner, I'm on a budget and every penny counts."

A local tradesman had been helping drivers get to grips with the new machines, which accepts card and cash payments.

"It is a bit of a pain," he told Nub News.

"I've got a job to do here, but I'll have to move my car and then come back and do it again."

The Council says it has implemented the charges to increase turnover of spaces, "which should help local businesses."

Owner of Dog & Rider Boutique Sara Hunt said she was yet to see that effect.

"To me, Cowbridge is a destination, you come for the day. People have something to eat, and visit the shops," she said.

"Now as a business owner, I'm struggling to find a space.

"I rang the Council to ask if I could pay a bulk sum for the year, rather than paying everyday, but was told they hadn't got that far yet.

"They suggested I park at the old cattle market site. There's no way I can do that, with what I need to carry between the shop and my car."

Nub News has approached the Vale of Glamorgan Council for comment and is awaiting a response.
